Section 0 - Exploratory

These events are designed for high school students who are beginners to explore the different areas of the UTE-Projects. While students who place in the top five in each event will earn awards, the points do not count towards school awards.

UTE High School Projects General Info

Unique to Texas Projects (UTE-Projects) are events that are unique to the state of Texas and can be competed at the regional and state level.

Projects can be completed either individually or as a team. When registering the project for the Regional Competition, the project will be registered to one student of a team.

Regions may enter up to 7 projects for each UTE-Project event.

If students only have events in this category, they may register as a virtual competitor and attendance is not required.

Students are responsible for reviewing and following the general rules and guidelines established in the:

  • General Rules and Regulations
  • Copyright Policy
  • Student Uniqueness of Work Policy
  • Required Documentation

These rules and requirements may be modified at the regional levels to accommodate for space and time constraints, check with your region for more details.

Important: Ignorance of the rules and/or misunderstanding of the rules as run at the state conference is not an excuse for a protest or additional consideration.

Exploratory - Graphic DesignCreate a flyer advertising a meeting, event, or opportunity for your local TSA chapter. Be sure to include date, time, location, and other information that a potential attendee might need to know.HP01000
Exploratory - MultimediaMake a how to video explaining how to make a paper airplane. Video should include directions and visual demonstration. Video not to exceed 60 seconds.HP01100
Exploratory - Computer ScienceDesign an Algorithm: Submit a student-developed procedure/function/method that contains sequencing, selection, and iteration. Use code comments to identity the following: procedure name, sequencing, selection, iteration, inputs (if any), outputs (if any). Include a code comment at the top of the document that describes what the procedure does/what function it serves (can be a stand-alone algorithm or part of a larger program).HP01200
Exploratory - PhotographyCapture a moment with your camera that includes an activity you enjoy outside of school. The photograph needs to be color and submitted as a virtual submission.HP01300

Exploratory - Applied Science DisplayPropose an experimental design to test the efficacy of a novel vaccine. Include the process to create the vaccine, the clinical trials process, and biotechnology related immunoassays required to test the vaccine's effectiveness against the virus. Describe the expected results if the vaccine is effective if it is not effective.HP03000
Exploratory - Applied Science Model/PrototypeCreate a new wind generator prototype. The wind generator needs to include the wind harnessing mechanism and base structure. Also, a one page (maximum length) explanation of the prototype and the process that it uses to convert the wind to energy.HP03100
